Frequently Asked Questions

They’re good questions, and we try to give informative and useful answers – just maybe not quite so often. So, here are the common questions that we are asked frequently by new podcast clients. We’ll update this page as the interests of our clients evolves.

Can we book a room in the studio?

My bad here. I was thinking more “Creative Studio” when I named my business. We’re not a walk-in recording studio, although we do go out to record clients on location. Less bragging rights, but more cost effective for you. If it does make sense for you to gather in a really inspiring professional space to record, we can arrange one of those too – just ask.

Can you edit a video of our podcast for YouTube?

Absolutely. We’ve produced video marketing content for decades, directed multi-camera live streamed events and made obscure art films. We can give you recommendations on how to shoot your podcast, and give you a classy edit of the material afterwards. We also have heaps of experience of optimising and growing YouTube channels. With the enormous audience and good discoverability, there is much to be gained with podcasts on YouTube.

When can we start?

We usually have a lead time of 2-3 weeks for new projects. This means that we usually can get your podcast set up and the first episode launched within 5 weeks of you giving us the go ahead on the podcast production.

How long should my podcast be?

Glad you asked that. To some degree anything goes, so long as it works for your audience. But there are two formats that have emerged as a sweet spot for listeners. We wrote about then and gave some examples:

20 Minute Bulletin
45 Minute Deep Dive

Can we record our podcast on Zoom?

Quality is important in podcasting, so we will recommend a platform with the same functionality but superior audio quality and post production features. There will be a small cost for this, but you’re worth it.

We want to be able to edit the episodes ourselves after the first season. Is that possible?

You will be the owner and administrator of any accounts we set up for you. There’s no lock-in with our services, and we can provide basic training in audio editing. As full time producers, we work faster and ultimately more economically for you so, on balance doing it yourself will likely cost you more.

How frequently should we publish our podcast episodes?

This is the question of the moment. Weekly shows build audiences faster, but burn through content too. Monthly shows are the slow and steady option but you need good, regular marketing communications or mini-episodes around it to keep your audience engaged. Fortnightly seems to be the Three Bears “Just Right” at the moment.

Can you edit out all of the um’s and ah’s?

We can do, but in our view podcasting is about people and their individuality, so we like to keep speech sounding natural and authentic. If there is anything that gets in the way of clear communication, like retakes, mispronunciations, deviations or pauses. We will certainly remove or edit around anything that you’d lose “Just A Minute” for. Our goal is to keep your podcast flowing.

What about copyrights? Who owns the podcast?

Your content stays your own and we don’t claim any rights to the material. We quite often license music for use in podcasts, but this remains the copyright of the creators and we pay a fee to the music library to use it for this specific purpose.

Can we settle our season invoice in multiple payments?

As a micro-business, managing cashflow over many projects is a challenge. So our ideal is advance payments. However, we recognise that our clients have cashflows to manage too, so for particularly long projects we can do two part payment schemes.

Do you build a page on our website for the podcast?

While we have high technical competence and knowledge, web development is not in our wheelhouse these days and is never part of the services we offer podcast clients.
